Joint Animation Not Working When Exporting from Maya to KeyShot via Plugin

Hi everyone,

I noticed that when I export from Maya to KeyShot using the KeyShot exporter plugin, the joint animation doesn’t seem to work in Maya afterward. To preserve the animation, I have to export the scene as an FBX file and then import it into KeyShot manually.

Is this expected behavior, or am I possibly doing something wrong during the export process?
Any suggestions or clarification would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I think it’s a limitation on the import features. You can check if you have latest Maya plugin, but I expect not much will change. I also use alembic exports a lot if I want export animations from a modeller. It will bake the animation so it won’t be as flexible but can also prevents weird issues sometimes depending on your animation’s complexity.

Hey Oscar, thanks a lot for the tip! I tried exporting the animation as an Alembic file from Maya, and it worked perfectly in KeyShot. That definitely solved the issue. Really appreciate your help!

alembic is the way to go, i do that from Cinema4d to get into KS, and for the most part it works as long as I have the export options set properly. There are still some things that Cinema won’t bake through the export process, have to do that seperatly but still works most of the time. Files can be huge though…
